Currently, we have two major operating systems being used in all the smart devices that we use. These include androids and IOS. But now the news is that we are going to have another operating system in the market i.e., Huawei operating system.
Many of us can relate the introduction of this new operating system from Huawei with this recent controversy of Huawei ban, but in reality, the idea of introducing Huawei OS has been floating from quite some time now. However, its revelation in the period by the chairman of business Group by calling it Plan B gives us the solid reason to consider it as an aftermath of the ban levied by the US.
Why was there a need for a separate operating system?
Huawei being one of the largest manufacturers of the smartphones, had to face a financial loss along with the loss of reputation because of the controversial linkage of the company with the Chinese government. This incident shows the problems that the manufacturer could face in the future.
Additionally, Huawei is highly dependent on Android for all of its devices, so reducing the overall dependence on the other companies also provide a solid reason for the launch of its own operating system.
In any case, the operating system is one of the most important parts of the smart devices, relying on external sources for it limits the way the company could use, and it also restricts the independence level while existing in such a competitive market. This is why Huawei needs its own operating system.
When was it initiated?
The operating software of Huawei has been under development since 2012. But the process of development has been slow and was limited to internal testing only. But the recent controversy between the US government and Huawei has provided it the opportunity to make it public.
How will Huawei name it?
Hongmeng is one of the names floating in the market for the Huawei operating system. But this does not come from the official sources and is just a part of the rumors coming from unofficial sources.
How will it work?
Working of Huawei’s operating system would be quite similar to the Android operating system. The users would be able to use the android applications easily on the Huawei OS. The accessibility to these applications would be ensured through Huawei app store, similar to the android app store and Apple store.
How will it impact Huawei users and developers?
If you’ll buy a device with Huawei operating system, then you won’t even feel the difference in its usage. Because what the company is trying is to redevelop the best user experience that the current Android operating system is providing. However, according to some of the sources, android applications on Huawei platform might work, but the users would experience up to 60% lag in performance.
This would require the developers of the applications to customize them for the Huawei platforms. Thus, requiring the developers to modify or rework to keep their applications acceptable in the market.
When is it launching?
Some of the officials from Huawei have expressed their thoughts on the launching time of this operating system. For them, the Huawei operating system would be ready to be launched for the Chinese market by the end of 2019. However, the international launch of this software must be expected by the year 2020.
Huawei is just a few months away from the Chinese launch. This is why the application of “Huawei Hongmeng” to be registered as a trademark has been applied in China. But for the European markets, the patent application has been given by the name of Huawei Ark. This shows that the Huawei operating system for the Chinese market and for the rest of the world would be differently named.
South Korea, Canada, New Zealand, and a few other countries are also on the list where Huawei has submitted the patent applications already.
In the future, we are going to have three different operating systems in the market. Definitely, a new operating system is going to create a sense of competitiveness in the market. So, you can expect better features, as a result, from each of these operating systems.
How do you see the launch of Huawei operating system? Will it benefit the users?
